Film Magazine - Ancillary Task 1

From looking at the format research on film magazines the most popular came to be Empire.

Empire magazine is a British film magazine and published monthly. It is sold in the UK, US, Australia, Turkey, Russia and Portugal.

The image on the left is my magazine front cover, advertising my film, it shows the generic conventions of a magazine, the USP (Unique selling point) the house style which is showing which is red, white and black, the overall house style of the magazine would be able to attract the audience ans the flow of the colour translating to the audience. The USP is in a different colour compared to the rest of the text and the colour contrasts to the red undertone, the plus sign above the USP is one that is popularly used in this type of magazine.

The barcode on the right would be hidden more when in a rack full of other magazines and the audience not fully knowing the price of the magazine, however seeing what is in the magazine before seeing the price. So in other words being attracted to the little information that is on the front of the magazine and wanting it before seeing the price. So I have chosen to use the convention of having a left third, something which I learnt in AS media to learn how to attract and appeal to different audiences. Where the information in the red box at the bottom is, I made the edges less straight on the sides, for example the top edge has little bits of brush effect over the live this is to make the cover look less serious for the brand.

The house colour of the magazine is red, white and black and then the background image from my shoot at the church location. The background image I chose because although it gives away a location it does not give away any of the storyline or the genre etc of the film.
